This conceptual work explores the enduring presence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the collective consciousness of the Marathi people. Rather than portraying the historical king, the artist presents an ordinary human face infused with the imagery of Shiva - suggesting that the qualities associated with Shivaji Maharaj are not confined to history, but live within generations.
The powerful gaze, flowing Jata and Tripundra evoke courage, self-respect, resilience, discipline and the spirit of Swarajya. The stark black figure against the luminous yellow ground creates a visual tension between strength and awakening.
The work poses a simple yet profound question: What if Shivaji Maharaj is not merely someone we remember, but a spirit we carry within us?
The king belongs to history. The spirit belongs to us.
अंतरीचा शिवाजी
