Hello, I am Narendra Gangakhedkar - A Journey of Colors, Emotions & Stories

Artist Profile

Where Silence Becomes Art

Every painting begins with a question rather than an answer.

My work explores the quiet spaces between the outer world and the inner self-where nature is no longer just a landscape but a living metaphor for life’s journey. A solitary path, an ancient tree, still waters, a forgotten doorway or the first light of dawn become symbols of hope, transformation, faith and self-discovery.

Working primarily in acrylics on canvas, I seek to create paintings that invite contemplation rather than demand attention. I believe that art need not explain itself; it should awaken memories, evoke emotions and allow each viewer to discover a personal meaning within the work.

My artistic journey, which began in earnest after retiring from over three decades of professional life, has become a continuous exploration of observation, reflection and expression. Every canvas is an invitation- to pause, to breathe, and perhaps to see oneself reflected within the painting.

My Philosophy

I believe the most profound journeys are inward.

Nature has always been my greatest teacher - not because of its beauty alone, but because it quietly mirrors the truths of life. Trees teach resilience, rivers speak of surrender, mountains embody patience, and changing seasons remind us that transformation is inevitable.

My paintings are born from this dialogue between nature and human consciousness. Rather than depicting places exactly as they appear, I use symbolism to express ideas that words often cannot. The lone seeker, the winding path, the empty boat, the banyan tree, the lotus, light emerging through darkness-these recurring elements represent stages of our own spiritual and emotional journeys.

I do not paint to decorate walls. I paint to create moments of stillness in an increasingly restless world. If a viewer pauses before a painting, reflects a little longer, or discovers a meaning that is uniquely their own, the work has fulfilled its purpose.

My Process

Every painting begins long before the first brushstroke.

An idea may emerge during a walk through the forests of the Sahyadris, while watching changing light over water, reading philosophy, reflecting on ancient Indian wisdom, or simply observing the quiet poetry of everyday life. I allow these impressions to mature until they evolve into a visual narrative.

Rather than reproducing nature, I reinterpret it. I sketch concepts, explore symbolic relationships, study composition, and build each painting layer by layer in acrylics. Colour, texture and light are carefully balanced to create not only visual harmony but also emotional resonance.

The final work is seldom a literal scene. It is an experience -where realism meets imagination, and where the visible world becomes a gateway to the invisible.

What Inspires Me

Inspiration surrounds us, but it reveals itself only to those willing to slow down.

The forests and mountains of the Sahyadris, quiet lakes, ancient temples, Indian philosophy, meditation, devotional literature, and the timeless wisdom found in our cultural heritage continually shape my work. Equally inspiring are ordinary moments - a solitary footprint, the texture of weathered wood, sunlight filtering through leaves, a monk in silent contemplation, or the gentle rhythm of flowing water.

I am fascinated by the relationship between humanity and nature, between movement and stillness, and between what we see and what we feel. These observations become the language of my paintings.

Every artwork is an invitation to look beyond appearances, to embrace silence, and to discover that the greatest journeys often begin within.
